Chapter G2
History

GWRRA Michigan Chapter G2, Heartland Wingers, was Chartered on April 22, 1990 as the 33rd Chapter in the Great Lakes Region D, Michigan District. The kick-off was held at the VFW hall in Edmore, MI on the early spring morning of May 5, 1990. The first Area Representatives, Jon & Deb Betham, currently of Anderson, S.C.and Assistant Area Representatives, Glenn & Betsy Irish of Greenville, MI, had their doubts about the turn out that morning as the temperature was in the 40's and there was a heavy fog. As it turned out, so many motorcyclists attended that they packed Hitachi's blacktopped parking lot directly across the street with their machines and set a new record for the largest Michigan Chapter kick-off!

Since that time Chapter G2 has had many Area Representatives and Chapter Directors, which include Vic Bennett & Betty Crooks; Carleton & Sally Brooks; Jim & Bonnie Ludwick; Robert & Kathy Rose; David & Maggie Thurston; Lew & Linda Randall; Chris & Rita Persinger; Al & Nancy Pierson; and Dan & Billye Dulyea.  Our current  Chapter Directors are Randy and Colette Houtman, of Greenville, Michigan.

Chapter G2 has supported many worthy causes since it's inception which include: Make a Wish Foundation; The Pediatric Brain Tumor Research Institute ~ Ride for Kids; Michigan's Rainbow Connection; DeVos Children's Hospital of Grand Rapids, and the B93 Roof Sit for Kids. In addition, each year we adopt a family at Christmas from our local area and share our bounty with them through gift giving and encouragement.

Chapter G2 is a fun-loving group of people who enjoy getting together with their GWRRA family. We participate annually in Edmore's Potato Festival Parade, Shepherd's Maple Syrup Breakfast and Parade, and Sheridan's Spring Festival Parade to demonstrate to these communities a positive image of motorcyclists.

We encourage and promote safety through our Rider Education Program with many members actively involved in the Levels Program through commitment and participation in CPR, First Aid and ERC courses.

Truly Michigan GWRRA Chapter G2 embodies our Association's motto:

"FRIENDS FOR FUN, SAFETY & KNOWLEDGE"
