From Dale and Andy

MO, Anniversary Parties, charity runs, other chapters' events, etc., etc.) which the rest of the chapter would love to hear about.
Your adventures can be interesting, informative, heart-warming, and down-right entertaining for others.  You might have gone someplace that none of us would have dreamed of going . . . until we read about your adventures in the Newsletter.  You might spark an idea for others to follow in your footsteps, travel the same roads you traveled, experience the breath-taking view of Grand Canyon, Blue Ridge Parkway, the East or West Coast, the Tulip Festival in Holland or the Cherry Festival in Traverse City, or just enjoy a quiet, peaceful weekend ride to somewhere close by.
Please take a moment to jot down or e-mail your fondest memories and forward them to Mary Dodge so she can put them in the Newsletter for others to enjoy and dream about.   Remember, this is YOUR Newsletter.  Please take a moment to share your unforgettable rides with your Chapter J family and friends.

Thank you.

As I write this article, I am camping for a week with my family at the Portage Lake State Park.  Once a year we all get together (Mother, brother, 5 children, 3 son-in-laws, grandchildren, and several extended family members and friends) for a huge camp-out.
As I know many of you do, my family looks forward to it each year.  Eventually, some of the grandchildren were setting around camp complaining there was "nothing to do".  Mind you, we had about 9 bicycles, scooters, a paddleboat, a lake with a beautiful beach waiting for someone to go in swimming, fishing rods, nature trails, new friends to meet and enjoy, and lots of games to play (I tried to ban the TV, but my daughter brought one anyway).  With some gentle persuasion (otherwise known as Death Threats), I got them to participate in some of the different activities, and they eventually all had a great time. This brings to mind chapter activities and participation.  I promise, there will be no death threats, but you will find that you have much more fun if you participate.
By now, Wing Ding will be over, and I am sure you all have many good times and stories to share.  We expect by now, Ken and Rita have already been selected as National Couple of the Year.  Andy and I would like to have been there to support them, but we have been trying to go "Out West" for several years, and finally got to go this year.  You probably all chose different paths to follow and activities to participate in during Wing Ding, but I hope you had a great time, good weather and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.
There are still many more great times to be had throughout the summer - State Rally, Midnight Ride, ice cream and dinner rides, a Progressive Dinner/Camp-out in September, picnic rides, etc., etc.  I really look forward to seeing all of you there (now that I have my bike back - yeah!!!)

Group or Team  Leaders
What can go wrong may go wrong
and that's all right.

This month we would like to take some time and talk a little bit about what may go wrong on a group ride.   A majority of us use GPS's to help us find our way. If you are the leader and have a route programmed into your GPS stay with your route. It's OK if all the groups don't take the same route.  Remember we are all just getting to the same ultimate destination safely.
Another thing that happens are wrong turns.  SO WHAT if we make a wrong turn or two. Don't beat yourself up about it.  You just need to find a safe spot to get turned around. Be ready to put up with some kidding after words but it's all in good fun. We all do U turns. It almost seems inevitable. Ask anyone that's lead a ride. That's why we learn how to do so in the ARC and ERC's isn't it?

Each month, the Chapter Director, Assistant Chapter Director(s), Rider Educators, Membership Enhancement Division and Couple of the Year are expected to write at least one article for the Newsletter.  However, we know many of you have taken trips (down south to Nashville, Americade, Wing Ding, Alaska, Bronson,
