July CD Notes
There has been so many different events happening since our last newsletter that I might not get everything in this letter but I will try. We had some bad news that Mike Packer's sister, Theresa Zacker, she passed away suddenly with a heart attack at only 40 yrs. old. We are sending a mass card in lieu of flowers in her name. First, we did have our yard sale and I can say it was a success. We made enough to pay for those who participated in the garage sale and selling raffle tickets to pay for the camping part in August for our canoe trip. Well done and thanks to all who participated. The week after our yard sale several of our chapter members left Saturday morning for Americade. We had breakfast with Jo and Earl, Walt and Grace, Dennis and I. Walt and Grace came to send us off with their words of wisdom and hugs. We met Mike and Mary who was driving their truck and camper, Jack and Diana, Ed and Don, Dennis and I all were on our bikes. We got to Claire where we met up with John and Barb, Jim and Irene who were waiting for us, and we decided to get rain gear on since it was definitely gonna rain. We stopped at Cracker Barrel in Port Huron for lunch. It rained on and off until we got to Niagra where we stayed for the night. We left Niagra next morning and arrived in Lake George that afternoon. We all had joy of setting up camp but not in the rain this time. Once at camp everyone went their own way. Jo told everyone we are not joined at the hip go do what you want. Some went to dinner some did not. There were a lot of things to go and see. On the second day we went and picked up our Americade packet. Those that their last name began with q-z got to go to the front of the line since there were not many, and that line was always short. Jo, Earl, John, Barb, Jim, Irene, Dennis and I went to the ranch and found a comfortable seats and air conditioning while we looked our packets over and decided what to do first. We decided to go to the newcomers meeting and glad we did .We learned what to do, not to do and when which was very informative. We watched precision the drill team perform on their bikes (awesome). We ate dinner, because opening ceremony was right afterwards and no time go back to camp. They had desserts and prizes after only a few announcements. Mike and Louise came but we did not see them. Back at camp we found them. They were staying in the cabins. Next day there were demo rides, and Jack, Mike and Dennis tried different bikes. Louise and I got to be the co-riders on the Stallion. (Dennis and I plan on keeping our 1800 for now anyways). Wednesday, we did a group dinner cruise on Lake George. We had nice weather and good food. Most of us went almost deaf, but thanks to the heroic deed that Earl did some of us could hear again. The speakers for the whole boat were right in front of us and we asked them to turn them down politely several times, but to no avail. That is when Earl got up and unscrewed the wire that was connected to the speakers. Then the rest of us could hear each other and enjoy the ride. None of us won any door prizes but, upon leaving the boat one of the company's representatives gave Dennis a gift certificate for gloves from Tourmaster. Earlier in that week Ed's name was drawn for a gift certificate at Ben and Jerry's ice cream. Thanks to John and Barb informing Ed of his win fall, we were all invited to share something like 32 Scoops of ice cream, and it was a lot of fun all 17 of us. The rest of the week was spent shopping and walking !!!!!!! Saturday the group started breaking up, each going home or on further their own way. Wished all of you went with us, maybe next time. You have no idea how much fun we all had!!! Also I made a mistake in the amount of bike tickets Jim and Dori sold was 500 not 400 which I previously reported, sorry Jim and Dori. Dennis and Joann
