Chapter Beginning Orvin and Judy Perkins, while riding their Gold Wing, had met a member of GWRRA from the Elkhart/South Bend Chapter in Indiana and were invited to attend their meeting. After a couple of meetings, which resulted in Orvin and Judy getting home after midnight due to the fact they were traveling an hour or so back and forth to meetings and the fact that Indiana was an hour different in time, they decided to see if there was interest from other Gold Wing riders in the area in starting a new Chapter. Subsequently, a newspaper ad was run announcing a meeting to take place at the Perkins Family Camping Center in White Pigeon on November 13, 1984. Present at that first meeting were Wendell and Barsha Persing, Orvin and Judy Perkins, Tom Caldwell, Keith and Sharon Balyeat, Bob Koryn and Jesse Shafer (a Chapter D GWRRA member). Two more meetings were held prior to final organization and on January 13, 1985 the Chapter X designation was formally assigned to the group. The Chapter Certificate of Charter was signed on the 20th day of March 1985.
