Houghton Lake Chapter of Gwrra of Michigan

Chapter Y was started in September 1985 in the garage of Jack Johnson's home in Roscommon with a video of GWRRA and a cookout. He was the first Area Representative and his assistant was Jay Bolton. The Chapter was chartered on November 21, 1985. They put an ad in the newspapers and advertised on radio to try and draw more people into the Chapter.

Jack Johnson printed the newsletter and made the headings we use today. Don McKay designed our Chapter Y logo patch, which we also use today with the "Wong of the North" added to the top in 1992. Duane Luedecking was State Director when the Chapter was chartered.

In the fall of 1991, we took the the name of "Wings of the North". In January of 1991 Chapter Y entered the "Tip Up Town" parade and we received a ribbon for entering. In 1992 our entry received a ribbon, a $50300 check and a trophy for second place for originality. We were honored to have our float pictured, along with a write up about "Tip Up Town", in the January 1992 Wing World magazine.

We have an annual campout at Cyclemore for our Hobo Campout and stew, which is very good. Our Chapter Campout is at Wayne and Audrey Burgess' home in St. Helen each July. To end our year we have our Anniversary/Halloween Party each October at eh Houghton Lake Community Center.

Chapter Y is a busy Chapter with dinners and rides, and we keep in mind our motto "Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge".

Chapter Treasurers
Our second Treasurer, Leona Rodgers, held the position for 8 years from January of 1986 through December of 1994.

Our third Treasurer, Audrey Burgess, held the position from December of 1994 through January of 2002.
