The History of  Chapter MI-B

Chapter Mi-B was started in January, 1981 and covered all of the westside of Wayne County and beyond. Our first Area Representative (CD) was Roger and Pat Ringuette, they remained the directors till Roger's death in 1989. During this time our membership swelled to over 400, which at the very least made dinner runs, ice cream rides and color runs really an adventure (Have you ever tried to make reservations for over a hundred people at a time?). We also had a former chapter member selected as the Wing Ding Queen from Michigan in 1983, Beverly Demers. In March 1983 we had a spin off and started Chapter MI-H, where Bev became Area Representative, she was the first female Director in Michigan and possibly the country. We also had other chapter members start new chapters as well during this time. After a short time the chapter started to grow again so in January 1990 we had another spin off and MI-H2 was started with Ian Holmes as Chapter Director.

Over the years some of our members who have gone to different rallies representing the chapter have come away as event winners, we’ve had first place finishes in practically all field events. Some of our more consistent winners have been Tom Boyd, Gary (Wingnut) Gorkiewcz, Harold (Wierd) Pagenkoff and Clarence Demers. We also faired well in Bike Judging with Gary Gorkiewcz, Paul and Gerry Keberly, Don And Jane Kujat and John Enot (First Place at Wing Ding XVI) just to name a few. The chapter also won the Light Contest at Wingless Weekend 1991 (all categories), Best Campsite '89 & '90 Region D and Largest Out of State Chapter at the Ohio Campout '90.

We’ve also helped support quite a few charities over the years including Special Olympics, Junior Diabetes, Retinitis Pigmentosa, The Lions Club, The Goodfellows and Make-A-Wish with our core support going to The Penrickton Center, Ride for Kids, Rainbow Connection and Toys for Tots.

We’ve also received a Special Recognition Award from the Blue Knights of Michigan in 1991 at their induction ceremony.
